Community Based Research Projects for 2018

The following projects were done for the 2018 class. These projects involved participant observation, semi-structured interviews, in-depth interviews, video walkthroughs of residents' homes, and detailed fieldnotes.  Projects for 2018 were done in collaboration with the Department of Community Development for University City, MO. These video stories were presented at the 2018 Honoring Older Americans Month event at the University City Library, University City, MO.

The True Cost of Aging in Place: Tells the story of the financial challenges facing University City and its older residents who attempt to Age in Place while struggling to keep their property maintained in accord with City Ordinances.

Getting Up and Getting Down: Agency in Older Adults in University City: Explores the ways older residents in University City help themselves and their neighbors with home maintenance, including the obstacles they face, while staying engaged in the community, and managing the challenges of Aging in Place.

Fostering Independence in University City: Details strategies used by the Department of Community Development in University City to assist older residents manage the challenges they face in home maintenance, transportation, and community involvement. Residents and volunteers providing home maintenance service participate through in-depth interviews and home walkthroughs.
